within zoe leonards photographic work, she has a very understated, discreet technique in capturing mundane and overlooked subjects. in the work documented above this is clearly
evident as most scenes such as the stills she has taken of the bricked up windows and the abandoned, disused buildings have a definate simplicity to them yet there initial mundane qualities actually become of interest due to the nature of the image.
the literal way in which the windows have been bricked or boarded up within these images does not initially indicate a disconnection. yet when considered the act in which to hide or detract the use of the intended space, of which is a window, then this intiates the disconnection that has been enforced. also the intention of creating a void would usually be through the reaction of removal yet much the same as the disconnection the technique of removing the intended use therefore communicates the void.
